Here are some FAQs about our beautiful dough bowl candles!

How safe are these?

We believe they are safe to burn as long as the person burning it is aware of and follows the federal warnings and burning instructions. (Those are listed in the next question.) One thing to note about all candles is that the wax in a candle melts from the heat of the wick burning. The wick is only in contact with the wax and the holder that secures the wick in place, so the actual flame does not come in contact with the container. 

Do I need to do anything different to burn this candle?

No, you do not. We will always recommend that you abide by the federal warnings/burning instructions that are listed on a sticker that is attached to each and every one of our candles. Here's a recap of those guidelines:

  • Burn within sight. (Do not light and walk away, be in the same room while lit.)

  • Keep away from flammable objects. 

  • Keep away from children and pets. 

  • Trim wicks to 1/4" before lighting.

  • Keep candle free of any foreign materials including matches and wick trimmings. 

  • Remove ALL decor on candle prior to lighting.

  • Only burn the candle on a level, fire resistance surface. 

  • Do not burn candle for more than four hours at a time. 

  • Stop use when only 1/4" of wax remains. 

Do you spray any of the dough bowls with fire retardant? 

We purchase products from a quality vendor who prepares the dough bowls as "candle ready". 

Are these bowls completely watertight?

We cannot guarantee 100% water-tightness of the bowl; however, rest assured we test each bowl for water-tightness before we pour wax into it. We recommend if you do purchase one of these dough bowl candles and light it, ensure it sits on a fire resistant surface that can also handle any wax clean up that may be necessary.

What can I do with the dough bowl once the candle burns out?

Ask us to refill it for you (additional charges apply ) or clean the bowl out and reuse it for decor or other fun functions:

  1. "Catch-all" for watches, keys, spare change, or any other pocket fillers!
  2. Soap dish on your sink ledge.
  3. Potpurri bowl.
  4. Fruit Bowl
  5. Fill with pretty seashells.
  6. Lay flowers and display on a dining table.

Cleaning Instructions: Carefully hold the bowl perpendicular over a waste basket and warm up the leftover wax with a blow dryer or heat gun. Pour out the liquid wax into the waste basket--never down the sink! Once the wax is poured out, carefully remove the wick holders. While still warm, I recommend using a blue shop towel and some isopropyl alcohol to clean out the bowl. (Some websites say use soap and water, but you really don't want any wax in your plumbing system.) From there you can use the decorative dish as a fantastic holder of keys, coins, or wallets near your front door, or decor anywhere else around the house/office.
